    The heart of Montessori.

The Primary years are where the Montessori vision comes fully to life. Over a three-year cycle that culminates in kindergarten, children move from wonder to real mastery — reading, writing, mathematics, and a deep love of learning.

Countryside primary children in the classroom

Give a child three uninterrupted years in one community, and something remarkable happens.

In a mixed-age Primary classroom, younger children learn from older ones and older children lead. The third year — kindergarten — is the payoff, when children step into the role of the oldest, most capable members of the community and consolidate everything they've built. Choosing the full cycle is one of the most important decisions a Montessori family makes.

    A Second Language, Every Day

Spanish is woven into every Primary day. A native Spanish teacher spends an hour in each Primary classroom daily, immersing children in a second language during the years they absorb it most naturally.

    In the Primary Community

    What children work on.

    Language & Literacy

From sounds to words to fluent reading and writing, following each child's own readiness — plus daily Spanish with a native-speaking teacher.

    Mathematics

Concrete materials make abstract ideas visible — children build real number sense with their hands.

    Practical Life & Culture

Care of self and environment, plus geography, science, art, and music that open up the world.

    The Path Continues

    Next comes Lower Elementary.

After the Primary cycle, children move into Lower Elementary, where curiosity becomes big questions and real research.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What ages are in the Primary program?
Primary is a mixed-age Montessori community for children ages 3 to 6 — Pre-K through Kindergarten — in one continuous three-year cycle.
Why is the Kindergarten year so important in Montessori?
The third, Kindergarten year is when everything comes together. Children step into leadership and consolidate the reading, writing, and math they have been building — so staying through Kindergarten matters enormously.
Will my child learn to read and do math in Primary?
Yes. Montessori materials make early reading, writing, and mathematics concrete and joyful — many children read and work with numbers well before first grade because they are ready, not rushed.
    Does Primary count as Kindergarten?
Yes. The Kindergarten year is built into the Primary cycle, and our Kindergarten children are well-prepared for first grade, here or elsewhere.
