At Countryside, our 5th and 6th grade students take full responsibility for planning and running fundraisers to support the annual 6th grade trip. While the goal is to raise money, the real value lies in the lifelong skills they gain along the way.

These fundraisers are not just events — they are hands-on learning experiences that bring our school mission to life. Our students develop Respect, Responsibility, and Resourcefulness, the three pillars we believe are essential for becoming great students and exceptional adults.

• Respect: Whether working with each other to brainstorm ideas, reaching out to teachers for support, or thanking contributors, the kids are practicing the art of respectful communication and teamwork. They’re learning that every contribution matters, and every person plays a role in their success.

• Responsibility: From keeping track of expenses to making sure deadlines are met, these students are experiencing what it means to follow through and take ownership. Sofia might be tracking orders, Finn could be managing supplies, and Emmett may be leading the charge at the coffee table — each role comes with real responsibility.

• Resourcefulness: When the unexpected happens — like a last-minute weather change or someone forgets to turn on the percolator — Aydin and Charles might step up with creative solutions. They’ve learned to think on their feet, adjust plans, and find new ways to make their fundraisers successful.

This real-world experience gives them the confidence and skills to tackle future challenges — from school projects to careers and beyond. When students leave Countryside, they don’t just take memories of a 6th-grade trip with them; they carry the mindset and capabilities that will help them thrive in life.
